Fire Station Open House

The Moorhead fire station had an open house to let the community come in and see what fire fighters really do. The day before it was 86 degrees and sunny and on this day it was 40 and raining. Yuck! Not unusual for this area though. Louis liked the big hoses.
They had an practice escape house. The kids went in and the smoke alarms went off and then it filled with smoke. For the first five minutes the fire fighters taught them about staying low, feeling doors for heat, and opening windows to escape, among other things. Carson and Daniel are peeking out the window.
Then the kids took turns and crawled out the window and down a ladder to run away from the house.
They demonstrated how they get into cars when people are trapped in side. They used a few different tools and the kids were amazed at how the car was ripped apart. This was the end when they peeled back the roof of the car.

The kids got to use the hoses to knock out the flames. (below)

Carli's friend Luma came with us. Inside the fire station they had free hot dogs, chips, cookies, and pop. Even though we had lunch before we went, the kids couldn't pass up free food.
Carson got to sit and drive the big fire engine. The fireman said "he would probably sit there all day", I agreed. But then.......
A fire call came in and they unloaded all the kids and put everything away and took off. It was a highlight of the day.
